- About Ateneum
The Board of the Finnish National Gallery Foundation has appointed Susanna Pettersson, PhD, as the new Museum Director of the Ateneum Art Museum. Pettersson is currently Director of the Finnish Institute in London. She previously served as Director of the Alvar Aalto Foundation and Alvar Aalto Museum, and she has also held several positions at the Finnish National Gallery.
Altogether eight persons applied for the position of Museum Director of the Ateneum Art Museum. The Board of the Finnish National Gallery Foundation also considered other candidates, of whom Susanna Pettersson was one.
“We had many good candidates for the position. Susanna Pettersson has a strong knowledge of art history and extensive experience in managing cultural organisations. She is active and energetic within international networks, and she is exceptionally well prepared to oversee Ateneum’s traditional role as a leading art museum, as well as to explore new opportunities,” comments Timo Viherkenttä, Chairperson of the Board of the Finnish National Gallery Foundation.
The position of Museum Director is for a set term of five years, and Pettersson will begin working at Ateneum in October. Until then, Timo Huusko, Chief Curator of Collections at Ateneum, will continue to serve as acting Museum Director.
