- About Ateneum
The art of Erkki Sakari Heinonen (1933–2010) was created far away from city centres amidst the scenery of Haapajärvi in Northern Ostrobothnia. Especially in his prints Heinonen often portrayed the reality of everyday local life, which was very close to him. Humorous social criticism, dreams and reality engage with creativity.
The result of co-operation between the Central Art Archives and Ateneum, this FOKUS exhibition is on display on the museum's collection floor.
FOKUS: Hommage à Erkki Sakari Heinonen
Only a small selection of works in Ateneum’s collections can be displayed at any one time. The FOKUS series presents smaller thematic exhibitions that focus on a particular work of art, artist or subject. The FOKUS exhibition Hommage à Erkki Sakari Heinonen is presented in co-operation with the Central Art Archives. The works of art on display have been selected by Curator Maritta Mellais.
