The Many Faces of Tove
10.04.2014

10AM-4PM in the Ateneum Hall

In this seminar, experts discuss the life and artistic career of Tove Jansson from different perspectives. Tuula Karjalainen, curator of the exhibition, will talk about Jansson as an artist, journalist and author Ville Hänninen will look at the political caricatures that were published in the magazine Garm, and comics councellor Juhani Tolvanen will cover the artist’s impressive production of comics. The artist’s niece Sophia Jansson will in turn discuss Tove from the perspective of a family member. In addition, Sirke Happonen, an expert in children’s literature and illustration art, will shed light on the illustrations, words and action of the Moomin books, and gender researcher Annamari Vänskä will explore how the Moomins challenge gender norms.
The seminar will conclude with a panel discussion.
