Art collections online and in exhibitions

The third floor of Ateneum will be closed as of March 2014 for around one-and-a-half years while the roof undergoes renovation. The new roof will provide better ventilation, while new insulation around the skylights will also enhance energy efficiency. These improvements will have a considerable effect on indoor conditions, which are especially demanding in the museum building. The work has been commissioned by the owner of the building, Senate Properties.

Works from Ateneum’s collections online and at Sinebrychoff Art Museum

During the renovation, popular Finnish works from Ateneum’s collections will be on display in three exhibition halls on the ground floor of the museum. Works from the collections can also be viewed online.

The Google Cultural Institute online service includes 55 classic works from Ateneum in high-resolution images with descriptions. The online service makes it possible to take a virtual tour of the museum’s collection display.

Images and information about works from the collections of Ateneum, Kiasma and Sinebrychoff Art Museum can also be found on the Finnish National Gallery’s recently updated Art Collections Online service.

From 27 March to 10 August 2014, Sinebrychoff Art Museum will present the exhibition “Travelling with Women” that includes some of the most beloved works of Helene Schjerfbeck, Maria Wiik, Elin Danielson-Gambogi, Ellen Thesleff, Sigrid Schauman and many others from Ateneum’s collections. The exhibition tells the story of Finnish female artists travelling abroad through the works they created there.

A combined ticket for both the Tove Jansson exhibition at Ateneum and the Travelling with Women exhibition at Sinebrychoff Art Museum can be purchased from our ticket desks (€18/16).

NOTE! Not all the works are on display all the time.
Its status as a national gallery requires the Ateneum Art Museum to lend its works to other museums in Finland and abroad, and this is one of the reasons why the selection of works on display in Ateneum varies to some extent. If there is a specific work of art you wish to check, please use the search function above (below Ateneum's contact information).
