Ateneum Art Museum seeks candidates for the position of museum director


The Finnish National Gallery is an active cultural institution and a significant expert organization. The largest art museum institution in Finland, the Finnish National Gallery consists of the Ateneum Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and the Sinebrychoff Art Museum.

Ateneum Art Museum seeks candidates for the position of

The Museum Director’s duties include managing, developing and overseeing the operations of Ateneum Art Museum and making sure that the museum’s tasks are properly allocated and carried out. The Museum Director is a member of the Finnish National Gallery’s management team and has a role in developing the National Gallery’s operations.

The eligibility criteria for the position include a higher university degree, a strong understanding of the art museum field and practical experience in management and leadership. In addition, applicants are required to possess excellent verbal and writing skills in Finnish and satisfactory verbal and writing skills in Swedish. An exception to these language skills requirements may be made if there is good reason to do so.

To successfully attend to the duties of the position, applicants must be familiar with art history in relation to the national collection. We value diverse professional experience in the visual arts, administrative experience, strong collaboration skills, an active approach towards developing the museum and a good ability to engage in international cooperation.

The position is for a fixed term of 5 years.
